COMPETITIVE DANCE TEAMS

Being a competitive dancer comes a certain level of commitment.
Here are the rules that go along with being part of the DC Dance Competition Dance Teams

  1. All Jazz and Lyrical competitive dancers are required to take Ballet. Ballet is the core of all dance, having a strong technical core will help your young dancer grow into a beautifully trained dancer! Tap and Hip Hop dancers are strongly encouraged to take Ballet however it is not required.

  2. Dancers must always be punctual! Competitive dancers must always be on time to classes, not only does this allow us to use the full class time to prepare for competition, it is also imperative for the health of your dancer’s body (since usually the first part of a class is used for warm up). This will also teach your young dancer a life lesson on the importance of being on time.

  3. Competitive dancers are often times privileged enough to experience many different kinds of dance, which may require an extra pair of shoes. For example, Lyrical dancers may be asked to get “foot undies” or Ballet dancers may be asked to buy pointe shoes. It is very important that the dancers have proper shoes for the proper classes. This is important for the dancer to get used to dancing in that particular style shoe so they do not hurt themselves during performances.

  4. Parents must be aware that competitive dance teams often times have custom made costumes which may be more pricey than those bought in other classes. Also, many competitive classes require more than one costume per class.

  5. All competitive dancers are expected to be at all competitive dance events. This includes all mandatory rehearsals and all competitions. Most of the competitions do not give us exact days and times until close to the event, however, the DC staff will give you the dates at the beginning of the dance year. Parents need to block out the entire weekend of these events in advance. Often times if your dancer is in multiple numbers you may be going back to the competition Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

  6. Attendance is MANDATORY the week before any competition dance team performance. This includes all competitive classes including Ballet.

  7. All-Star competitive dancers are expected to wear proper make up for all performances. This includes blush, red lipstick, and glitter. All jewelry must be taken off unless it is part of the costume. For example, you cannot wear a rhinestone choker and earrings unless the entire group is wearing them.

  8. Finally to be part of DC Dance Center’s competitive team’s is a privilege and we expect you to treat it as so. Competition dancers are extremely looked up to from other younger dancers in the studio. Competitive dancers should always be respectful to all DC staff including teachers, teacher assistants and reception staff. Competition dancers need to be aware that as part of the competitive team they are not only representing themselves but also representing DC Dance Center.

  9. Please do not call Miss Debbie or your teachers. All correspondence should be done through the front desk. Please respectful teacher’s “down time”. The front desk should be able to answer all your questions or they will find out the answers for you.

  10. Competitive dancers are expected to be organized. You must always keep track of your costumes, accessories, shoes, and props. Costumes should be hung and everything should always be kept neatly together. Your name should be on EVERYTHING!
